TinkerTar

The TinkerTar, created by Rockbridge Guitar Company co-founder Brian Calhoun and developed by musicians, is a one-stringed guitar that is perfect for little fingers and makes learning an instrument easy and fun! With its single string and easy-to-navigate colored circles representing the notes up and down the neck, the TinkerTar is a great way for Kindergarteners to learn to play melodies. Enjoy this Good Morning America story on the TinkerTar that features Angela teaching a class!

Drumming and Percussive Play

The Instrument Exploration of Percussion Play will include several downloads that will help teachers share this dynamic contemporary percussive style. Often performed on traditional five-gallon paint buckets, Percussion Play is an excellent way to introduce students to percussion and to teach teamwork, cooperative play, and patience as the kids learn to become attentive performers and listeners.

And, since it’s never too early to teach concepts of rhythmic patterns and sounds, we are including a special download for your youngest students too!

  • Preschool Percussion Play is an exciting Instrument Exploration activity that introduces young children to the fascinating world of percussion instruments.

Handbells

The Instrument Exploration of Handbell Play will include several downloads offering students an important introduction to playing an instrument and to controlling the sounds they are able to make. This is a great way for students to experiment with rhythms and note-playing, whether using scales or exploring melodies. Handbells are also an excellent way to introduce students to the teamwork and collaboration at the heart of all collective music making!

  • This Instrument Exploration lesson plan uses handbells to encourage preschool students to follow directions, learn rhythms, and get a little taste of the joy of making music together.
