The winter concert countdown is officially on! Here are a few simple ways to stay grounded, keep students motivated, and make these next three weeks feel joyful instead of overwhelming.

Pace Yourself

By now, you’re (hopefully!) well on your way with the concert music.

Use this three-week stretch for tightening, refining, and adding those finishing touches—dynamics, phrasing, staging, choreography, special moments, etc.

Remember: this is an exciting time for kids. If every class is dominated by drilling concert pieces, you’ll likely see energy dip or behavior start to unravel.

Use a 20–30 Minute Focus Window

Spend the first portion of class (20–30 minutes) on true concert prep.

Let this be structured, intentional time: run-throughs, tricky transitions, cues, movement, or polishing details.

Keeping the focus window contained protects your students’ stamina—and yours.

End with Something Fun & Seasonal

Save the last 5–10 minutes for a game, quick winter-themed activity, or a movement break. Check out our Any Time Any Class Activity Cards for a selection of activities that fit.

This resets energy, keeps the joy alive, and helps students associate concert prep with something positive—not pressure.

A fun closer also reinforces classroom community, which always leads to better performances.

Give Yourself Grace

You do not have to fix everything at once.

Pick 2–3 priorities for each class and trust the process.

Kids rise beautifully when teachers stay calm, confident, and joyful.

Remember the Magic

These concerts matter deeply to families.

Kids remember the laughter, the teamwork, the pride, and not the tiny musical imperfections.

You’re building memories, confidence, and community through music. What a gift!
